FERNANDO GARCIA:
North America's champion of tropo TV DX



Fernando Garcia DXed from Saddle Mountain in the Monterrey area of Mexico NL throughout the 1990s. UHF TV video tropo of more than a thousand miles distance was commonplace for Fernando during those years. And he didn't use an ICOM (or any other brand) communications receiver, either.

According to Fred Nordquist's list of "TV All-Time Distance Records" of Worldwide TV/FM DX Association members, Fernando holds the North America tropo record for fifty-one TV channels: 3, 5, 9, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 35, 36, 40, 41, 42, 43, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, and 69.

Fernando regularly received UHF TV video signals from distances that exceeded the record of 1,150 miles set by Ryn Muntjewerff of Holland in 1975. On November 27, 1999, Fernando received a strong signal from WGNT-27 Portsmouth VA. At a distance of almost 1,600 miles, that is the most distant UHF TV video reception that this writer can find.
