Spring / Summer 2012 TV DX Highlights Page 2

The amount of time spent on DXing during the E-skip season of 2012 was more limited here than usual. I did not DX at all in April, May, and the first eleven days of June. Furthermore, I was unable to take advantage of most morning and midday openings. Nor was I inclined toward doing unattended recording because I did not want to spend time reviewing time-shifted DX. Thus, the variety of stations and the quality of DX are not as impressive as that of previous years. As usual, the frequently-IDed Mexican analog TVs (such as XEFB-2, XEPM-2, and XEWO-2) were received numerous times in June and July. In addition, a handful of commonly-IDed Canadian analogs that remained on the air were received here. This page displays several of my catches from the Summer of 2012.

Identity found. It is XHAGU-2.

UnID Televisa Channel 2

If anyone knows which station uses this logo, please let me know.

This unknown and unusual-looking "2" is superimposed upper right on talker Laura. This is either a Televisa independent or Galavision / Local station. My best guess is XHAGU-2 Aguacalientes, which had a logo in the past that was similar yet thinner than this logo. Another difference in the unID logo is the up-turned right edge of the bottom. XEWO-2 Guadalajara and XHLGT-2 Leon were mixed with this station.

Listed at 300 Watts. K04QP has a CP for 2 kW, so the DTV may have increased power. K04QP also produced video in March.

Can you see the big "2" in this picture? No, your eyesight is not failing. It was one of those days when the most-interesting signals looked bad. After all, it was Friday the 13th.

Many colorful "Global" IDs have been recorded here, but both of the full-screen "Global Toronto" IDs recorded here are black & white (due to fades, jerks, and CCI).
I have never felt good about claiming Canada's difficult-to-ID network relayers. Global from Ontario was always common via E-skip on channels 2, 4, and 6. Therefore, I count only one for each of those channels (and hopefully they are the right ones).

I feel confident that this is the Warmley relayer because that city is in the same region as Brandon and Minnedosa (which were also being received at the time).

October 5, 2012

XEFE-2 Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas is my eighth TV station received via E-skip, Tropo, and Meteor Scatter. XEFE-2 is also my twenty-fifth TV station received via both E-skip and tropo

While XEFE has been received numerous times over the years via E-skip and Meteor Scatter, the station has been received by tropo only twice (the first time was in August).

Although XHPNG-6 has been IDed here numerous times by a text ID upper right, this October 5 reception is a guesstimate based on direction and DX conditions. Guesstimates work a lot better with tropo than with E-skip. XHPN-3 was in weakly later in the morning with their unique logo upper right on "Las Noticias" local news.

KWEX-DT-41
San Antonio, TX

343 miles via Tropo
KWEX-DT was previously logged on channel 38. Oddly, this is my first reception of KWEX-DT since the DTV moved from channel 38 to channel 41 in 2009. I suppose KUBE-DT and KXAS-DT may have been part of the problem. This situation makes me think that I should either quit DTV DXing or repair my more-directional P-5 UHF dish and put it back into DX action before the federal government sells off all OTA TV frequencies.
